In this episode of Internal Human Orchestra Work (IHOW), the team of Beth Simpson, Eleni Makri, Rob Eising, Rita Lampen, and Aviv Shahar expand the promise and potential of this evolving project by opening the territory of the electric and magnetic natures of the soul in human experience.

As with the Creational Logic episodes in the Current Openings series, and the broader Portals Into the Soul work, we are giving language to recognizable and natural processes. By bringing conscious awareness to these fundamental natures, we further tune our “internal orchestra” into a more integrated symphony, one that flows with life as it unfolds. This orientation naturally leads to the focus of this episode: peak experiences.

Where do the electric and magnetic show up in our daily lives? What are their higher and lower expressions? These questions form the entry point into the inquiry of peak experiences.

Aviv then delineates five types of peak experiences – some of which we may have encountered ourselves, though often in a random or unintegrated way. What they share is a core premise: peak experiences arise when more of our full human orchestra is brought into coherence – the physical, mental, and emotional through heightened focus and intention. When this happens, it can activate a distinctive sense of being vividly alive and present in the moment.

Within the IHOW work, the aim is to support the internal integration of these natural processes, cultivating greater wellbeing and expanding access to peak experiences.

Among the insights explored:

  • Each day, we navigate between the electric and the magnetic, and between their lower and higher expressions
  • The electric is fast; the magnetic is slow. The electric tends to rush and discharge, while the magnetic tends to hold and uphold
  • Five forms of peak experience: singular focus; thorough alignment; access to greater depth; the power of serving a cause; and combinations of the first four
  • Extreme sports can offer a rapid route to peak experience, but IHOW and Portals processes seek a more natural, sustainable, and consciously accessible pathway

When we say 'mystical sense', I'm not talking about a notion or a concept, I'm talking about how the human system can be activated and attuned to a certain set of experiences and feelings in an actual way, because of the energetic that's being processed and the atmospherics that turn up in different ecologies, say, when you spend a long time out in the woods, or when you hike to a top of a mountain. You can feel and access the atmospherics and the energetics of that place.

My life is forming as I live it, explore it, evaluate and refine it. So, what to say about that evolving story?

The first instrument I discovered at a very young age was our family breakfast table.  With my little spoon I hit all things standing on that table; plates, glasses, cups, jars with metal or plastic caps, the cheese, fruits,  the wicker basket, everything in the district...

Both the sound that each object reflected back to me, as the variance of vibration in the spoon that my hand could sense was a gift, transferring a message: this is my nature.

Is music the artful translation of the expression that things, lifeforms, plants, animals, humans, that creation is feeding us with, in every connective exchange we dare to engage with?
