When was the last time you found yourself in a space so filled with presence that it awakened wellbeing, self-value, and a renewed sense of purpose within you?
How can we cultivate ecologies that open the human faculty to new possibilities, while including and liberating our natural inclinations and talents?
How do we facilitate peak experiences that allow each person to become agentic and self-authoring, not just in thought, but through the full, multi-faceted nature of human perception and processing?
Join us in listening to episode #28 of the Universalis series, with Aviv Shahar, Karen Heney, and Kyriaki Nikandrou. This conversation is a tribute to our fellow travelers, those walking alongside us in discovering what it means to be human in times of epochal change. It was recorded in the afterglow of a three-day international workshop with the Epoch network, seeking to distill the insights, sentiments, and perceptions that had emerged.
We trace decades of developing the art and science of generating and choreographing peak experiences, transformational processes that enable people to reach moments of deep significance and communion. This was the kind of space we inhabited during the three-day journey, where a group of companions created together a cathedral ecology -- a space where people felt witnessed, included, heard, and received.
Why are peak experiences so thrilling and transformative? Perhaps it is not only because standing at the summit offers a full-circle view of what lies beyond us, but also because it offers a full-circle experience of who we truly are.
Among the highlights from this conversation:
- When guiding a group on any interior discovery journey, it is essential to cultivate an ecology, a generated nearby presence or essence, so that as people travel inward, they can link into that field and discover a deeper sense of themselves within the journey.
- When you encounter a work of art that inspires you, you may first wonder: what was the work that produced this result I am now in the presence of? You may then step further back and inquire: what was the originating inspiration that moved this person or group to create it in the first place?
- When we say, “I invest meaning into something,” it is another way of saying, “I invest life.” I bring life into something.
- For any form of theater to be effective, it requires an ecology, pre-programming, and connection that enliven it. In Greek, the word for actor is ithopoiós, which translates directly to “maker of ethos.”
- The three resistances, or gates, we must move through to achieve anything we seek, such as love, peace, or healing, are:
a) Where can I find it?
b) How can I fashion myself in the ways and frequencies of it so I can receive and process it?
c) Can I be it, for its own purpose? - “The very thing you deeply want, if desired from a place of absence and frustration because you do not have it, actually generates antithetical forces that push it further away. The esoteric reversal is this: if I wish to invite something into myself, I must become a little like it, so it can find me and transfer its own nature, wisdom, strength, and intelligence.”
This episode continues the Universalis journey into the evolving frontiers of human consciousness, coherence, and capacity, where knowing becomes a living force, and validation is no longer abstract but deeply alive in the experience of life itself. The future is not just the evolution of the past; it’s a release of new allowance from the future. Whatever happened in our personal history is not finished, it is still evolving, it can be informed, it can be healed, by what we have accomplished and the self-worth we have now about ourselves. This opens new pathways of profound healing and liberation possibilities, not just in relation to our individual blockages, but also for humanity’s collective faults. One of the functions we can serve as a collective of people who are on a spiritual journey, and who do intentional work, is that we can free up whatever is locked or frozen, whatever is imprisoned, in the past; and we can also create space for new things to arise.
