What enables us to look at a problem and discover the opportunity within it? What helps us loosen the gravitational pull of a predicament and release its holding power? To do so requires a form of inner alchemy – an authentic transformation that rewires who we are and how we engage with our environment.
We are living through an evolutionary transition, an octave leap, and we do not yet know what lies on the other side. This moment calls us into a process of honest appraisal, interior examination, and a willingness to let go, to shed what no longer belongs and cannot enter into the next octave.
Join us for Universalis episode #26,” which deepens and extends the inquiry begun in the previous episode, “The Examined Life: An Esoteric Trace - Universalis #25.” Here, the aim is to be forensic about the development of the Universalis journey: what brought us here, and the originating impulse that has propelled and nourished this endeavor. (Read the companion writing "The Study of the Human Predicament and Its Stop Situations.")
In episode #25, Aviv demonstrated a Socratic process of examining one’s life by approaching formative moments not merely as subjective experience, but as objects of inquiry. This allows us to revisit unresolved struggle and pain, as well as inspiration and breakthrough, and to see them anew through the lens of the present.
In this episode, Aviv traces the three lines of study that preceded the Portals and Universalis projects:
(a) the study of human predicaments and stop situations,
(b) the study of the epoch as it culminates, and
(c) the study of integration.
He then maps and opens the seven stop situations of the human predicament, including:
- the widening separation between the natural-as-was-meant-to-be line, and the evolutionary potential line, to the conditioned line of modern culture and its gravitational pull;
- the problem of philosophy;
- the problem of science;
- the problem of religion;
- the teacher–student problem, including the end of the guru era and the call to liberate the inner teacher;
- the leadership problem; and
- the problem of separated consciousness and identification, which calls forth the need for integrated, connected living.
The core insight is that, time and again, a domain arises to serve a fundamental human need, sourced in something profound and enduring. Yet over centuries, that very domain often becomes the obstacle to accessing the truth or essence that originally inspired it.
The Universalis research is an invitation to create space – to bring online latent capacities now ripening toward integration, and to liberate new possibilities for human development.
Highlights from the conversation include:
- The Socratic, esoteric process of examining one’s life as a path of validation and verification.
- The overarching human stop situation revealed in the widening distance between the natural, and evolutionary lines, and that conditioned line of human development.
- The capture of science by economic and commercial imperatives, coupled with a materialist and reductionist worldview.
- “When teachers or leaders focus on themselves in an egoic sense, even if they once connected with an essence source, they become separated from that originating presence. What is transmitted is no longer essence or truth, but the teacher or leader full of themselves.”
- “We cannot carry the same toolset and mindset that produced a problem across the threshold of its solution — no more than we can carry the earthly riches of this life into the afterlife.”
This episode continues the Universalis journey into the evolving frontiers of human consciousness, coherence, and capacity, where knowing becomes a living force, and validation is no longer abstract but deeply alive in the experience of life itself. Part of the process of releasing and letting go, through the alchemical transition from one octave to the next, involves acknowledging, seeing things for what they are, honoring what enabled you, what enabled me, what enabled us, humanity at large.
If we cannot honor what brought us to this point, we will not be prepared to more fully release what this time calls us to release in all these domains, in philosophy, in science, in religion, in teaching, in leading, in consciousness; in all of these domains of life, there are extraordinary achievements to embrace and carry forward. Yet, we will only be able to embrace the next permissions that are opening when we can also release what we cannot and should not try to carry forward.
