What is an examined life?
In this episode, Aviv Shahar, together with Karen Heney and Kyriaki Nikandrou, brings the lived perspective of a visit to Finland into a live, experimental conversation into Socrates’ timeless insight, “The unexamined life is not worth living”.
An intention to appraise where we are with the Universalis project catalyzes this examination. By asking what brought us here?, an inquiry naturally arises into what Aviv was engaged in before that led into the Universalis quest. This inquiry penetrates beyond three current lines of endeavor into a deeper uncovering of earlier formative and shaping events.
An esoteric, experimental approach seeks to access the energetic record of experience and to examine it not subjectively, as it was lived at the time, but as something that can be held outside oneself, integrated with the present and allowed to flow back in within the context and permissions of today.
With early recognition that this young person was propelled by a desire to understand what life is about, a sequence of feelings and notations unfolds. Reconciliation of this inner sense toward something universal appears only when a pathway is discovered, one imbued with the core principles that govern all processes, encountered not as concepts, but through the human system itself as the vehicle of those processes.
Through the witnessing of this energetic tableau, there are moments of embodiment, alongside a knowing that full integration with all aspects of life has yet to be realized. This initial journey is characterized as a movement away from the world and away from pain.
A shift then occurs: pain becomes a means of embracing embodiment and of journeying back into the world. This return initiates the study of the human predicament and its stop situations, setting the route toward Portals and, ultimately, the Universalis project.
Key ideas to reflect on and act upon:
- The two natures of the soul — the electrical and the magnetic systems
- Exoteric, mesoteric, and esoteric modes of appraisal, viewed through a Socratic lens
- A way of accessing and experiencing the energetic record of one’s etched experiences
- Three lines of endeavor: the study of the human stop situation; the epoch and its culminating processes; and the necessity of facilitating integration
- An esoteric examination of the seminal moments throughout Aviv’s life
- Stumbling upon natural laws and Universal principles, and integrating the material question
- Sensing and discerning the particular quality of pain and ache that emerges across these successive images
This episode continues the Universalis journey into the evolving frontiers of human consciousness, coherence, and capacity, where knowing becomes a living force, and validation is no longer abstract but deeply alive in the experience of life itself.
