At Portals we seek to offer great content to inquiring minds, and we also want to nourish and grow a thriving community by creating an ecology of practice for engagement and exchange. Your membership supports that potential.

Throughout history, the great questions have been asked, and great research has been undertaken, always expanding the territory of the known by shining a light into the unknown. Where is that cutting edge today? And can a community of people from all over the world, each carrying their own unique journey of discovery, come together to inquire at the edge of purposeful evolution, through dialogue and interaction? We think it is possible, and we hope that you will choose to be a part of this exploration.

Let’s imagine we fully embrace the perception that a big leap in evolution is now liberating the human species into a fuller universal possibility — homo universalis. Are we including ourselves, our own lives, in this vison of a new future? How will this emerging future find us, as individuals and communities? The first step in becoming available and accessible to this possibility is to ensure we’re making space in our minds, hearts and busy lives for superior intelligence to nudge its way in and work its transformative magic. Or is the bright energetic sign flashing above our heads reading “no vacancy”? Fortunately, there are practical tools and technologies to help us make and expand inner space. “Loom thinking” allows us to approach an inquiry not as a single question, but as a mosaic of multiple connected ideas that greatly expands the field of possible discovery and revelation. The art of contemplation is a powerful natural capability to unlock the deeper content and meaning of almost any point of focus. What’s stopping us? Many cultural currents and attitudes of modern life can blur our vision. For example, artificial intelligence, which is critical in many aspects of development and our sense of community. But no level of AI can replace the inherent human capacity to find and unlock new knowledge, and therefore the future. These are among the many mind-expanding (and space making) ideas we take up in part two of The Homo Universalis Project, a special series of Portals conversations with Aviv Shahar and Portals friends Karen Heney and Kyriaki Nikandrou. The project’s origin story is traced in part one. Unlocked in their new conversation:

  • Humans are not a singular being; we’re a multiplicity. Approaching anything in singularity implies shutting down the many other lives of us, which limits the human from its full promise.
  • There is deep insight into some of the pathologies and syndromes we now see in young people; they define themselves not in relation to themselves but to impressions they find on social media.
  • Part of our sense of self exists because we’re able to hold space for who we are. With intensified social messages 24/7, we lose the boundary of who and what we are, which leads to depression and anxiety.
  • The word “looming” or creating looms refers to something that's emerging or about to happen. Loom thinking offers the sense of facilitating what is emerging, or creating space for an emergent future.
  • We can use the process of mindful gazing — at the world, history, our own lives — enhanced by emerging new permissions to melt the pain and trauma preventing us from feeling our kinder human nature.
  • The “permanent line inquiry" practice generates inquiries live inside you permanently, even when you're asleep. It's not an intellectual or mental thing; it’s a devotional quest that you breathe to life.

This conversations is part of the continuing Portals discovery into what is emerging on the frontiers of human experience in this time of profound change. Information about upcoming special events can be found on the Events page. Also visit and subscribe to our YouTube channel.

Part of the epoch transition we’re experiencing is not a solo journey; it's a mutual discovery. We need to discover the luminary possibility of life not as solo luminaries, but as a collective neutralized luminosity that emerges in the conversations and explorative, contemplative journey that we generate.

From an early age there has been a compelling search for truths, those realities that didn’t have a fixing or a closed door. The quest for meaning, sometimes quiet, other times reaching and finding pathways, has always accompanied me. The awareness that all life is caused to exist for an inherent purpose, one that allows for the possibility of furtherance and refinement, has prompted both perceptions and questions. These concern the purpose of human life, its integration within greater domains and what I personally may need to discover in order to play my part. Creativity has always been integral, with an endeavour to create visual interpretations of concepts as practical activities. The intention behind a current project is to broaden the paths of relevance and meaning for others to access and explore.

When I was a child, staring at the starry night skies, I was filled with awe and wonder, about the mysteries of the Universe, Life, Time, the Human and its place in the Cosmos, trying to connect the dots that link everything with everything… Some years down the line, I still do. I am seeking to be in conversation with others in search for keys, for tools of understanding and application and for the real questions, the ones that become portals to contemplative journeys, leading to uncharted territories that feel like home. I believe we are on a trajectory of multiple and unpredictable changes; it is up to each one of us to rise to the challenge of our times. Now, more than ever before, is the time to be true to ourselves and fulfill our potential.
