What Stands Between Us and the Soul? – Portals Into the Soul, Event Part 2

Aviv Shahar and friends

In Part 2 of this Portals Into the Soul exploration into Chapter 7, The Soul, the Spirit, and the Self, Aviv Shahar revisits the three characters of the Soul: the Guardian of Life, the Steward of Learning, and the Champion of Higher Purpose (explored more deeply in Chapter 1).

We have all experienced how quickly the Soul can take hold of our responses and faculties when danger appears. The Guardian of Life is entrusted with keeping us alive. We also recognize the energetic uplift that emerges when we engage a subject, craft, or project we deeply care about. The Steward of Learning supports our growth and the unfolding of our unique contribution to life.

And the Champion of Higher Purpose reveals itself in quieter ways: the gentle nudge that asks about the meaning of life, the movement of the heart toward kindness and service, or the sudden inner clarity that says, “This is what I am meant to do.” In these ways, and in countless others, the Soul nurtures, guides, and accompanies us exactly as it is designed to do.

Aviv then places a question before the gathered community:
What are the obstacles today? Why has it become so difficult for people to understand, communicate with, and remain connected to the Soul?

What follows is a heartfelt and lively outpouring of wisdom, reflection, and practical insight. Beneath the conversation lies a deeper recognition: in many ways, we already know the answers. We know because we are human, and because the Soul itself is already within us.

When we slow down enough to listen inwardly, and when we speak openly within a shared and safe ecology, something simple begins to reveal unexpected depth and potency.

This is a recording to sit with and contemplate, because by listening, you are already entering the conversation.

How would you answer that question?
What simple awarenesses might you uphold within yourself?
What gentle practices might help you reconnect with the safety, guidance, and support quietly offered by your Soul throughout your life?

Among the insights explored:

  • The modern world often amplifies insecurity, making it essential to rediscover trust in ourselves
  • The speed and noise of life can disconnect us from subtle inner guidance; slowing down becomes part of reconnecting with the Soul
  • We can understand ourselves not as soloists, but as an inner orchestra, with many interior faculties seeking to support and guide us
  • The pressures of performance, survival, and earning a living can deeply impact our ability to remain connected to the Soul

This conversation is part of the continuing Portals discovery into what is emerging on the frontiers of human experience in this time of profound change. Information about upcoming special events can be found on the Events page. Also visit and subscribe to our YouTube channel.

One thing I would say that's been missing, and which is why I'm here today, is to have a conversation about the Soul, is to distinguish it, and have it be observable. You can intend towards something when you can see it. You can't see it if you're not talking about it, and nobody talks about it.
